Five arrested for attempting to migrate

Five persons who were attempting to flee the country on a boat to India were arrested in seas off Talaimannar, Police said.

Based on a tip-off received by the Sri Lanka Navy, three males and two females were apprehended and handed over to the Talaimannar Police yesterday (17).

The arrested individuals, aged between 16 and 58 are residents of Pesalai, Vavuniya and Trincomalee.

The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Mannar Magistrate’s Court today (18).

The Talaimannar Police is investigating the incident.
