Low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal: More rains predicted

The Department of Meteorology says cloudy skies are expected today over the Northern, North-Central, North-Western and Uva provinces due to the low-pressure area over South Bay of Bengal.

The Met Department predicts showers at times in the Northern, Eastern, Uva and North-Central provinces.

It added showers or thundershowers can be expected is several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts during the afternoon or night.

Fairly heavy showers above 50mm are likely at some places in the Northern, Eastern, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
