The Department on Meteorology predicts showers or thundershowers at times over most parts of the country today.

The Met Department said heavy showers above 100mm can be expected at some places.

Cloudy skies will prevail over most parts of the island.

The Met Department added that the depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal is now located 350km to the northeast of Trincomalee and it is very likely to cross Sri Lanka by tomorrow.

Under the influence of this system, rainy and windy conditions are likely to increase over most parts of the island further during next two days.

Meanwhile, strong gusty winds of about 40-50kmph can be expected at times over the Northern, Eastern, Uva, North-western, Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
